Review Corner: The Purist by Versed

Versed is one of those skincare brands where I don’t even think twice about purchasing a new product. I don’t need to read the reviews or wait for someone to tell me to buy it. I just have to look at my own medicine cabinet to know how much I trust this brand.

Now, that doesn’t mean all of their products are meant for me or even work for my skin type. I loved their Day Dissolve cleansing balm, but the eucalyptus oil within the product irritated my rosacea cheeks.

But when I saw this bb, I knew I needed to try it immediately. Anything that promises to cleanse my skin without stripping it of my (very essential) oils is an instant purchase for me. Here’s my breakdown of Versed’s The Purist and my final thoughts!

Look at her. HEART EYES EMOJI.

I knew I wanted to test this a few different ways: First thing in the morning and as the second step in my double cleanse routine before bed.

For the morning cleanse, it felt like it got rid of all the nighttime dirt, oil, and overnight face products. But my skin is so dry naturally that it usually only likes some micellar water in the morning. After using The Purist, my skin did feel a little squeaky-clean-tight, but nothing super intense. (For contrast, Versed’s former Gel Cleanser was a bit more drying on my skin, so this one felt a lot better post-clean.)

It starts out like a clear gel, but gets nice and foamy once mixed with water.

When it came to my nighttime routine, this is really where it shines. It also has to work a lot harder since it’s taking off not only dirt, oil and daytime skin products, but also makeup, sunscreen, and lord knows what kind of city residue because, real talk, NYC is gross.

I used this with my Good Molecules cleansing balm and my face felt so fresh and so clean (clean)—not to mention SO SMOOTH. I truly haven’t felt smooth skin like this from a cleanser that wasn’t an exfoliator.

Needless to say, this little gem will be joining my nighttime routine as the second step in my double cleanse. I may still prefer their Milky Cleanser when it comes to not feeling tight after cleaning, but the lasting smoothness from The Purist is hard to beat.

Pros:

  • Great price

  • Works well for sensitive skin

  • Packed with superfruit antioxidants like blueberry, raspberry, apple, and cucumber

  • Leaves the skin feeling and looking clean

Cons:

  • If you have drier skin like me, the skin can feel a little tight after cleansing.

More FAQs:

  • Price: $9.99

  • Where to buy: Versedskin.com; Target.com

  • Who is it for?: The website says for all skin types, but the bottle says it’s made for Combination, Balanced, and Oily skin. From my own experience, I think you can still use it with dry skin, but it may best as the second step of a double cleanse routine.
